Import/Export Specialist

Purpose of the Position

This role of Customs Import/Export Associate supports the Customs Import/Export Manager in the daily handling of all import and export shipments. The role involves preparing and submitting customs declarations, communicating with freight forwarders and customs authorities, and ensuring proper customs clearance of shipments. The Associate also monitors and updates customs and shipping systems, resolves customs-related issues and inquiries, and participates in training and development programs to continuously expand knowledge in customs and international trade.

Key Responsibilities

Operational customs clearance based on the requirements of our business and customers.
Supporting the Customs Import/Export Manager in the daily execution of import and export processes.
Preparing and submitting customs declarations, including prior document checks to avoid potential delays in customs clearance in Germany.
Communicating with freight forwarders, customs authorities, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure proper shipment processing.
Coordinating with internal departments and external partners to facilitate smooth customs procedures.
Monitoring and updating customs and shipping systems, especially regarding shipment status, duties, and taxes.
Assisting in resolving customs-related issues and inquiries.
Ensuring compliance with all relevant customs regulations and policies.
Supporting the preparation of reports and analyses for senior management.
Participating in training and development programs to expand knowledge in customs and international trade.
Identifying and implementing improvements in customs processes.
Building and maintaining relationships with customs authorities and other relevant agencies.

Qualifications

Willingness to work shifts, including weekends, based on customs clearance requirements.
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in customs clearance and international trade.
In-depth knowledge of international customs regulations and procedures.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Experience in managing customs documents and declarations for import/export/transit for air and ground transport.
Fluent in German and English.
Experience with customs software and systems (Cargowise & Scope).
Knowledge of HS code classifications for all import and export shipments.
Experience in customs clearance of BTM/AMG/veterinary-regulated products.
Experience in communicating with customs authorities.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
Ability to work independently and in a team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
